EDITOR’S LETTER
Hello...
As a vegetarian teen kicking around Lincolnshire, my first introduction into the world of sustainability was through The Body Shop, sadly now in the news for the wrong reasons. I would religiously return my plastic bottles, with my aunts bestowing dewberry-fragranced hampers upon me every Christmas. Speaking to salons decades later about their own sustainability journeys, I can see how far we’ve come… and how much more we can be doing. ARKIVE’s Adam Reed was a big Body Shop and Anita Roddick fan, and the influence is clear – his Covent Garden salon was designed with sustainability at its core, as you’ll see in our feature, from page 56. If you have yet to build a strategy around sustainability, I urge you to use Earth Month as your springboard. I hope our salon bosses inspire you with what they have put in place… and if you’ve already made eco strides, then you’d better be entering our Most Wanted Sustainability Hero category this year (see page 50) – we all need to be celebrating those making changes for good.
