A SELECTION OF THE ESSENTIALS
Lions Barber Collective charity to close
The Lions Barber Collective is closing its charity format due to a lack of funding, founder Tom Chapman has revealed. The charity offers mental health and suicide prevention training to barbers and stylists, to help them recognise symptoms of mental ill health in clients and signpost them to relevant support services.
Back in March, Tom reached out to the industry looking for fundraising support after discovering that despite being acknowledged in the government’s strategy to combat suicide in the UK, the charity had not received any funding from the allocated budget for the cause. However, he revealed on Instagram the charity’s closure: “In the current economic climate, many charities are struggling financially and we are no different. We have therefore taken the very difficult decision to bow out gracefully.”
As Tom owns the intellectual property, he plans to continue The Lions Barber Collective and its pop-ups as a product from his training company. He is moving training into colleges to prepare the next generation of hair pros, the most current partner being Wrexham College.
