SHE'S ELECTRIC

Lulu Richards is a hair force to be reckoned with. With experience at London’s Not Another Salon and Linnaean, she can now be found flexing her cool, creative muscles at Sta Studios, the East London-based co-working space for creatives in the hair and beauty industries.

With more than 100k followers across her Instagram and TikTok accounts, her mullet niche has seen her become known for hair tailoring with a tantalisingly modern twist. Hair lovers are excited and delighted by her videos – think grunge wolf cuts, curtain bangs and Stevie Nicks-inspired shags, alongside spikey mullets and rebellious razor trims. It’s ultra-cool and controlled hair creation, and we’re here for it!

WHAT MAKES LULU'S HAIR WORLD TICK

WHY HAIR? Hair is a true form of self-expression. I love being a part of each client’s journey. I get to help them create styles that truly reflect who they are.

WHY CUTTING SPECIFICALLY? Because I love control. Colour has too many variables for me.

HOW DO YOU REMAIN DISCIPLINED? Being freelance gives you an inbuilt want and drive to work hard and be consistent.

WHAT’S YOUR HAIR FORTÉ? Creative geometric cutting.

WHAT DRIVES AND INSPIRES YOU TO CREATE? My clients. I’m lucky to have an incredible clientele. They bring new ideas and inspire me to create and innovate every day.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE CREATIVE PROCESS? I love it when a client is relaxed and trusts me (especially when they fall asleep). That makes me relax and feel confident – even if I’m creating something that’s technically very difficult.

WHAT’S SET TO BE HOT FOR YOU IN A/W24? I have a very specific niche. For me, it’s always about gaining new clients with hair to play with.

LULU'S QUICK_ FIRE QUESTIONS

TOP TIPS FOR PERFECTING YOUR CRAFT: Practice. The more you do something the better you’ll be.

HAIR-KIT STAPLE: Sweets. Always have sweets in your trolley. CAN’T-LIVE-WITHOUT TOOL: Diffuser.

SIGNATURE STYLE: Wolf cuts.

FAVE CELEB CUT/COLOUR AND WHY: David Beckham in the 1990s.
