hello...

I must discuss Channel Four’s iconic TV series The Salon with hairdressers at least once a month, with both sides lamenting that nothing since has quite as brilliantly captured the magic of a salon experience. The banter, the camaraderie, the hair transformation (and the smiles – and sometimes tears – that follow). But I would argue that now, social media offers that opportunity, and in our School of Social Media feature, from page 58, we highlight the different approaches salons and stylists are using to engage the public to the expertise and joy that a professional hairdresser can deliver. From the power of humour (bebop, we’re looking at you), to the potential impact of user-generated content (Sophia Hilton shares a masterclass), we’ve got the insight that might just take your social stratospheric. Just look at Jack Mead, Instagram’s hair transformation artist par excellence – he shares the one change he made that brought him a whole new audience! And on the subject of social, it’s been a treat to see all the reactions of our Most Wanted & It List Award finalists as we revealed our line-up. Blooming well done to the lot of you – I’ll be seeing you (possibly on stage as a winner) at Beams in London on Monday 2 September!
