AN AUTHENTIC TAKE

WE LEARN THE FOUNDATIONS OF HAIRDRESSING AND THE CLASSICS SO THAT WE CAN GET CREATIVE AND APPLY OUR OWN SIGNATURE TWIST THAT’S TRUE TO OUR VISION. IN AN EXCLUSIVE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN CREATIVE HEAD AND AUTHENTIC BEAUTY CONCEPT, JOSEPH FERRARO AND MELISSA TIMPERLEY EACH CHOOSE AN ICONIC STYLE AND SHOWCASE THEIR INDIVIDUAL FINISHES TO DELIVER A TRIO OF TANTALISING TAKES…

Joseph Ferraro has always aimed high. Growing up in Sydney, hair has taken him around the world, but he’s settled in Yorkshire, with an award-winning salon in stunning Harrogate. It’s been nearly 20 years now, and it’s where he’s happiest – creating fashion-forward yet wearable hair as UK advocate for AUTHENTIC BEAUTY CONCEPT, putting a smile on his clients’ faces and collaborating with his close-knit team.

We defy anyone in Melissa Timperley’s orbit not to grin like a Cheshire cat – time in her company is like a warm hug from your BFF. Is that why her Northern Quarter salon in Manchester is so beloved by clients? Maybe, but we would wager it’s also because the girl can cut. Just look at her education business, and you can see the skill. Now an advocate for AUTHENTIC BEAUTY CONCEPT, she’s not just laser focused on creating beautiful hair, but also doing so in the most ethical and sustainable way possible…

THE NINETIES KNOTS

Joseph’s authentic take…

“I really enjoy knotting hair. It’s a little bit more raw, a little bit more textured, very organic and not too symmetrical. It’s about looking at the model and placing the knots visually.”

THE HYDRO BOB

Melissa’s authentic take…

“You’ll always see a wet bob look on the red carpet, and it’s really in now for summer. It’s a fresh way of wearing a bob, creating more of a sleek, defined look but still with some authentic texture in it. Be warned: you’ve got to be careful that it doesn’t look like you’ve just stepped out of the shower. I want that sexy sweatiness about it.”

THE MINIMALIST MERMAID

Joseph’s authentic take…

“This is an effortless wave that’s brushed out, but it’s a little bit irregular. Some of the sections I took a bit lower from the roots, some higher, and some I left a bit straighter. You don’t want a uniform feel for a new era mermaid wave.”

THE PIECE-Y PONY

Joseph’s authentic take…

“The genesis is the classic, elegant ponytail… but I didn’t want just a simple pony! This has an editorial twist to it, taking that classic look to the next level with that natural, fluffy texture framing the face.”

Melissa used Airy Texture Spray, Nude Powder Spray and Working Hairspray from AUTHENTIC BEAUTY CONCEPT

THE FAUX HAWK

Melissa’s authentic take…

“This is great to spice up a ponytail and when you don’t want that slick look of a bun. This creates the softness and versatility of a ponytail, while keeping the hair off the face.”

Melissa used Hydrate Cleanser, Amplify Mousse and Hydrate Curl Enhancer from AUTHENTIC BEAUTY CONCEPT

THE BEDHEAD BOB

Melissa’s authentic take…

“This is giving me Zendaya! The whole point of this look is to enhance the natural texture, applying product to soaking wet hair to get the movement and then using a diffuser when drying. Don’t overwork the hair once it’s dried, you want to keep it as natural as possible.”
