What would Bernadette Byrne do?
In a world that is ever-changing, staying relevant is vital. HairPeople salon owner Bernadette Byrne knew she had to upskill before she could open her own Dublin salon
My journey as a stylist began in 1989, when I realised to be talented was great, but to be exceptional would take dedication to my craft.
As my career progressed, I knew I had to expand my skillset and gain as much experience as possible. I trained in hair loss, scalp health and wigs in London and worked as a colourist. It equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of salon operations, customer relations, and the intricacies of haircare.
Staying curious is key. Curiosity about hair trends, hair chemistry, your colleagues and your clients, will keep you motivated and relevant.
I love working in a salon. I love the camaraderie, shared talents, banter and the diversity of people I work with.
It wasn’t until I had laid the groundwork and gained different experiences and knowledge that I could then start the journey for the HairPeople salon. My vision was to create a salon that not only delivered sustainable, exceptional hairstyling services, but also provided an inclusive and welcoming environment for clients of all backgrounds. I meticulously crafted a concept that prioritised quality, sophistication, and environmental responsibility. Today, my passion for hairstyling, and commitment to sustainability, is reflected in every aspect of the HairPeople salon.
I now work with companies such as L’Oréal Professionnel Paris to inspire other aspiring hairstylists and business owners, showcasing the transformative power of passion, dedication, and vision. Never forget our industry is about people. A salon’s atmosphere is like a living organism. It lives off the people within it and thrives on good vibes. I believe in nurturing a positive atmosphere because I know that prioritising the wellbeing of our team and clients is the key to our success. @hairpeople.salon
