WHAT MADE ME
Encountering my first client who lost her hair due to a breast cancer diagnosis profoundly altered my perspective. Not only was she a great client but also a family friend. Being there for her from the moment she shared her diagnosis to helping her through the journey was a privilege.
Shaving her head, advising her on wigs and products and later, helping her as her hair began to grow back, made me realise that my role extended far beyond hairstyling. I became her confidante, offering support and empathy during one of the most challenging times of her life. Recommending products and utilising innovative solutions like the Kemon oxygen machine and Great Lengths extensions became integral to restoring her confidence and wellbeing.
This experience taught me that hairstyling isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about fostering deep connections and providing unwavering support to our clients, to laugh and cry with them. As my salon expanded, and as I encounter more clients grappling with illness, I embrace this aspect of my profession with grace and compassion.
Navigating these emotional journeys with my clients has reinforced my belief in the profound impact hairstylists can have.
