A DAY OF WORK/LIFE BALANCE FOR FERGAL DOYLE, FOUNDER OF FERGAL DOYLE HAIR IN BRISTOL @FERGALDOYLEHAIR

I GET UP AT… 5am and lift weights in the gym for an hour. It helps me focus on the day ahead and keeps me motivated.

MY WORK WARDROBE CONSISTS OF… Black, black, and more black. I’ve been travelling a lot for work over the past 10 years, so it makes packing so much easier!

MY JOB ENTAILS… Managing my salon and team, running a column five days a week (doing admin on the other two), teaching about hair colour (and sometimes social media) for Wella Professionals, project managing the refurb of my second salon and posting on social media.

IGOT HERE BY… Sticking to my motto: ‘Get up, dress up, show up’. My work ethic came from my parents. Working hard wasn’t something I ever questioned.

MY DAY CONSISTS OF… Gym, shower, admin, social media. Then do eight to 10 hours of clients, more admin, cook dinner, walk dog, and bed about 10pm.

MY FAVOURITE WORK TOOL IS… BlondorPlex by Wella Professionals. We’re a colour specialist salon, and we order it by the truck-load.

MY DAILY FUEL IS… Caffeine and protein. My car boot is well stocked with energy drinks and protein bars!

MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST INCLUDES… Anything from the ‘80s. I think I was born in the wrong decade. My guilty pleasure is musical theatre!

I’M ALWAYS PLANNING… My next move. Currently all my energy is being focused on opening salon number two. Watch this space!

WHEN I GET STRESSED I… Lean in and face it head on. I saw a therapist for two years and learned not to run away from stress or procrastinate.

WHEN I GET STUCK I… Ask my team for help. I have been blessed with an incredibly supportive team, I love and value each and every one of them, and can always depend on their help.

THE HABIT I NEED TO BREAK IS… Saying yes to everything.

THE MISTAKE I LEARNT THE MOST FROM… ‘Buy cheap, buy twice’. When I opened my first salon, I had a shoestring budget, and now some of it already needs replacing. I wish I had just paid extra for better quality.

THE ADVICE I’M GLAD I IGNORED… ‘Don't open a salon during a pandemic’. There’s never a right or wrong time, disaster can happen at any moment. If you want to do something, and you have the determination, just do it!

MY BIGGEST INDULGENCE IS… Prosecco and pizza.

I DECOMPRESS BY… Doom-scrolling on TikTok.

TikTok I’ve learnt so many interesting hacks on here, and I love answering hair questions.

Motivation My best friend bought me a subscription, it gives me a daily boost.
