NOT ANOTHER
A few years ago there was a clear way I would tell my students to achieve blonde transformations: over time. Break down the service over several appointments and manage client expectations. At Not Another Salon, we stopped doing platinum blondes; my team found them a real pain. We stopped showing them on Instagram – there’s always a direct correlation around what you get asked for with what you’re showing. Why bother taking on extra challenges when you’ve got waiting cash elsewhere?
Then I started to watch Blonde Solutions transformations on Instagram – work done in one sitting. I was pretty blown away… and envious. With the economy getting tougher, it was no longer a good idea to be turning away a huge proportion of the market. I’d not seen a bleach before that could lift to platinum without a toner. I couldn’t believe it when they decided to make me global ambassador and bring it to the UK.
If you want to outshine the salon down the road, start doing colours that they can’t do, and use products they’re not using. Make your shop window – Instagram – full of new products (platinums) that they have been dying to buy!

It’s all about experimenting when you have free time and keeping up-to-date with what is influencing people. It’s important to market your technique to clients with names that describe it and make sense. Don’t overcomplicate it!
Offer different package options to cater for varying client needs and budgets. Most techniques that we create will incorporate a product as a ‘must-have’, for example we may have our Old Money Blonde technique which involves lightening and toning, with Metal Detox from L’Oréal Professionnel Paris as an essential alongside it as it will support and improve the finished colour.
This technique is new but has had a lot of interest already. It’s great for clients to feel that we’re keeping up with current trends and techniques. It’s increased the amount of money spent on an individual bill, and retail sales.
